Olawunmi Adeola Oshikoya (nee Shobowale) is the creative director of divine events. Olawunmi registered Divine Events as a company while she was at the University of Lagos studying Philosophy. She tried her hands on real estate where she worked in the company’s corporate affairs department for two years and before coming back to her first love. Divine Events started off as an event management company (planning & cordinating) in 2007 before branching out to event styling (event decoration) in 2012.

WP: What inspired the entrant into the industry?

DE: During one of our school breaks, I was chatting with my neighbour and she mentioned that she was travelling to the UK for 2 weeks and she needed someone to fill in for her at work as the personal assistant to the manager at an event center in Parkview Ikoyi. Told her I was available and up to the task. During the two weeks I worked, they had several events i.e. weddings and birthdays and I was so drawn and super excited to how the events went and the rest is history.

WP: What are the challenges on the job?

DE: The challenges we face as an event styling company is the fact that we always have to buy new décor materials, there are always new décor designs/materials in style. Almost all our décor materials are sourced abroad and with the current situation of the exchange rate making it not so easy.

WP: What are you planning to do differently in 2017? What are the trends you are likely to rock

Our plan for 2017 is to build divine events as a brand to the level where it’s a household name for creating beautiful and successful events both in planning & event styling (home & abroad).
